Postal Cash Card Postal Cash Card: In keeping with the modern era, the Postal Department has launched the Postal Cash Card to create an important milestone in the country's economy by using plastic money or cards as a medium of transaction along with paper currency and to take the current government's commitment of Digital Bangladesh one step further. On March 26, 2010, the Honorable Prime Minister inaugurated the Postal Cash Card and the commercial operations of the cash card started from July 1, 2011. So far, about 1 lakh 50 thousand customers are availing this service. Postal Cash Card service is available in 1400 ATM booths of 26 banks under the Q Cash network. Under this service, 8 Sonali-BPO co-branded ATM booths have been launched in Dhaka city and 7 in other district towns. Postal Cash Card service is available through POS machines in 1,374 offices of all district/upazila post offices and important sub-post offices of Bangladesh. Currently, work is underway to expand the postal cash card service to 8,500 post e-centers. A total of 14,127 beneficiary families have been provided with 137,17,270 taka through the postal cash card under the World Bank-funded project titled "CCT" to ensure nutrition and education of disadvantaged children through the postal cash card operated under the Local Government Department. The regular presence of workers working in remote areas is ensured through the use of postal cash cards and allowances are paid to the cards of the workers receiving allowances based on that presence. Under the social safety net, a total of 81.154 crore taka has been provided to 9987 beneficiaries through postal cash cards under the project titled “Employment for the Extremely Poor (EGPP)” run by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. Currently, beneficiaries are being provided allowances through the “EGPP” project in Debidwar Upazila of Comilla district and Saidpur Upazila of Nilphamari district. The program of providing training allowances through postal cash cards to 2171 beneficiary marginal farmers has been started with the funding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. In addition, 82 workers working in Bangladesh Forest Inventory Implementation are being provided with the funding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Funded by UNDP and supported by the Local Government Department, the Strengthening Women’s Ability for Productive New Opportunities (SWAPNO) Project is providing financial assistance to 216 beneficiaries to alleviate poverty among extremely poor women and their families, improve their livelihoods and life skills. Currently, under the Department of Social Services of the Ministry of Social Welfare, old age allowance, immobile disability allowance and widow and husband-beaten women allowance are being distributed through postal cash cards on a pilot basis in Nagarpur Upazila of Tangail district, Haluaghat Upazila of Mymensingh district, Atwari Upazila of Panchagarh district, Ulipur Upazila of Kurigram district, Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati district, Barguna Sadar Upazila, Dirai Upazila of Sunamganj district, and various unions of Morelganj Upazila of Bagerhat district. The Local Government Department is directly implementing the Income Support Program for the Poorest (ISPP) - Care Project to provide financial assistance on a quarterly basis to selected beneficiaries against receiving specified services in 443 unions of Mymensingh, Sherpur and Jamalpur districts and 43 upazilas of Kurigram, Gaibandha, Larmonirhat and Nilphamari districts of Rangpur division. The electronic payment process has already been started recently by the Honorable Minister of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives among 51 selected beneficiaries of 2 unions of Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram district, namely Char Bhurungamari and Tilai union. **By using postal cash cards, regular attendance of workers working in remote areas is ensured and allowance is paid to the cards of the benefit recipients based on that attendance. Under the Social Safety Net, under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Under the project titled ‘‘Employment Generation Program for the Poorest (EGPP)’’, a total of 8 crore 11 lakh 54 thousand taka has been provided to 9987 beneficiaries in Debidwar upazila of Comilla district and Saidpur upazila of Nilphamari district through postal cash cards. Through the project titled ‘‘Income Support Program for the Poorest (ISPP)’’- care, which is being directly implemented by the Local Government Department, the program of providing financial assistance on a quarterly basis to selected beneficiaries against receiving specified services in 443 unions of 43 upazilas of Mymensingh, Sherpur and Jamalpur districts and Kurigram, Gaibandha, Larmonirhat and Nilphamari districts of Rangpur division has been started. The main activity of this project is to provide financial assistance to 6,00,000 (six lakh) beneficiaries (pregnant women and children aged 0-5 years) against participation in health care sessions. Currently, about 4410 beneficiaries of four pilot unions are being provided financial assistance on a quarterly basis. **Under this service, 8 Sonali-BPO co-branded ATM booths have been launched in Dhaka city and 7 in other district towns.
